One Company Is Clamping Down on Bad Manners

CNN reporter Peter Valdes-Dapena recently spent more than two hours waiting for an EV charger. The experience of charging an electric vehicle in the US could be better, and a big new study is out that backs that up. One of the biggest problems is "charger hogs" - people who leave their cars plugged in long after they're finished charging.

Electrify America, one of America's biggest charging companies, is experimenting with a solution to the problem. The company is testing a new system that would charge drivers a fee if they leave their cars plugged in for more than 10 minutes after they're finished charging.

The lack of EV chargers and general car owners’ old habits have spawned a new phenomenon known as "charger hogs." These are people who leave their cars plugged into charging stations long after they're finished charging, preventing other drivers from using the stations.

EV charging company Electrify America is taking a stand against charger hogs. The company is testing a new system that would charge drivers a fee if they leave their cars plugged in for more than 10 minutes after they're finished charging.

The new system is designed to discourage drivers from leaving their cars plugged in unnecessarily. If a driver leaves their car plugged in for more than 10 minutes after they're finished charging, they will be charged a fee of $0.25 per minute.

Electrify America is hoping that the new system will help to reduce the number of charger hogs and make it easier for drivers to find available charging stations.
